This subject addresses principles and practices related to teaching and learning in Science, Humanities and Social Sciences Education (HSSE) and Technology within primary and middle school. The subject will develop pre-service teachers' competence in planning, implementing and assessing environmental and social inquiries that position students as agents for change. The subject will equip pre-service teachers with a repertoire of strategies to promote students' capacity to ask important questions; collect, validate and analyse data; and arrive at well-reasoned conclusions and sustainable courses of action. The subject will consolidate pre-service teachers' own knowledge and understanding of socio-ecological systems and processes with a view to inspire them to educate for local and global sustainability.

Learning Outcomes

• demonstrate an understanding of interactions between chemical, biophysical, economic, social and political systems;
• identify opportunities to consider indigenous and diverse perspectives and accommodate the needs and interests of all students within inquiry contexts;
• employ strategies to promote students' capacity to work scientifically and critically within social and environmental inquiry contexts;
• employ strategies which explicitly and purposefully promote students' literacy, numeracy and ICT skills as integral to effective data collection and analysis, and communication of findings;
• demonstrate knowledge of Science, HSSE and Technology assessable elements and standards and their application in practice.
