Students will conduct a supervised piece of educational research. They will report that research in a thesis written in a style that is appropriate to their chosen research methodology.

Learning Outcomes

• to develop a deep understanding of ethics appropriate to the changing role of schools in society;
• to develop a professional identity as an educational practitioner which incorporates a sense of inquiry;
• to develop the critical skills to assess the roles of teachers in relation to current and emerging educational issues, trends and policies;
• to gain competence in analysing educational problems, collecting research data, data analysis and writing of research reports;
• to gain extended knowledge of the particular educational topic chosen for research;
• to gain insights into how to work effectively with the profession and the community.

Graduate Qualities

• The ability to think critically, to analyse and evaluate claims, evidence and arguments, and to reason and deploy evidence clearly and logically.

Assumed Knowledge:	General knowledge of social, cultural and developmental issues shaping educational provision (including curriculum and pedagogy), participation and outcomes and of some policies relating to those issues. Knowledge of conventions regarding citation of sources of information and ideas.
