This subject prepares pre-service teachers for the role of professional educator within the classroom, school and wider community. Pre-service teachers will investigate a range of Indigenous education policies and pedagogical theories to develop models of integrated curriculum, which are inclusive and embed Indigenous perspective across Key Learning Areas. The subject will draw extensively upon national, school-level and classroom Indigenous policies and practices and to explore the relationship between rhetoric and practice. Pre-service teachers will critically examine school practices and relate these to the broader role of schools in the local, national and global communities, especially in relation to the sustainability of Australian Indigenous cultures and preparing Indigenous learners as global students.
