Available as a core subject for third year Early Childhood Education students.
This subject examines historic and current contexts, from the family to the global society, that impact on early childhood education and care in Australia. It explores professional development topics relevant to the early childhood educator, and reviews policy, curriculum and pedagogy for children from birth to 5 years.
Learning Outcomes
- critically examine the historic and current contexts that impact on early childhood education and care in Australia;
- understand early childhood professional development topics and their relevance to the early childhood teacher;
- be familiar with policy, curriculum and pedagogy for children from birth to 5 years.

Assumed Knowledge: | It is assumed that students undertaking ED3590 have either undertaken ED2590, or have a working knowledge of the <i>National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education</i>, the <i>Early Years Learning Framework</i> and other curriculum documents relevant to early childhood education in Queensland. |
