Core subject for BEd(ECE)[36110], and BEd Honours (ECE) [30009] students. EXTERNAL OFFERING available only to students enrolled in the ECE major.

This subject addresses principles and practices related to teaching and learning the humanities and social sciences in early childhood settings with reference to relevant state and national curriculum frameworks. The subject develops pre-service teachers' competence in planning, implementing and assessing inquiries which position young children as social active and informed citizens. The subject builds a repertoire of strategies that promote higher-order thinking capabilities in order for young children to critically engage with evidence, and arrive at well-reasoned conclusions and sustainable courses of action. Particular attention will be given to developments in the Australian curriculum, including the cross-curriculum priorities of Indigenous perspectives, Asian perspectives and sustainability.
