Core subject for BEd (ECE) students.
This subject introduces students to early childhood principles and practice, based on the <i>National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education</i>, <i>Early Years Learning Framework</i> and the <i>Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline</i>. Taking a play-based approach, the curriculum decision-making processes of planning, interacting, monitoring, assessing and reflecting will be explored in relation to documenting the learning and development of a focal child. Ten half days of professional experience in a childcare, kindergarten or Pre Prep setting will offer students the opportunity to link theoretical learning to classroom practice.

- demonstrate how to implement a play-based approach to curriculum decision-making;
- develop skills in documenting young children's learning and development.
