AG3000 - Project in Agricultural Science
Credit points: | 03 |
Year: | 2013 |
Student Contribution Band: | Band 2 |
Administered by: | School of Marine & Tropical Biology |
Advanced study in a selected area of Agricultural Science, based on a supervised research project, which may have experimental, observational, literature-based, or other approaches. Depending on students' abilities and requirements, the project may be organised through field/industrial placement, attachment to an appropriate research program at JCU or in a collaborating organisation, entirely independent studies or as group activities. It will be flexible to meet different needs, but will provide a suite of generic skills for all participants.
Learning Outcomes
- understanding the link between scientific theory and empirical testing of that theory;
- practical experience in the logistics associated with empirical investigation, in experimental design, in the analysis and interpretation of data/information and in the preparation of scientific reports to present their results: that is, a capacity for original observations, question/hypothesis development and output/outcome generation;
- practical experience in a research environment, working closely with and learning from experienced researchers;
- understanding of scales of knowledge by investigating a selected topic in depth.
Graduate Qualities
- The ability to deploy critically evaluated information to practical ends;
- The ability to find and access information using appropriate media and technologies;
- The ability to evaluate that information;
- The ability to read complex and demanding texts accurately, critically and insightfully;
- The ability to speak and write clearly, coherently and creatively;
- The ability to generate, calculate, interpret and communicate numerical information in ways appropriate to a given discipline or discourse.
