This subject will introduce students to concepts of social justice, human rights and legal frameworks through a critical analysis of selected issues. Students will be provided with social justice, human rights and legal frameworks for understanding the lives of people who experience disadvantage.
Learning Outcomes
- be able to identify and critically debate some of the major social justice and human rights issues and dilemmas involved in a range of social policies;
- be aware of some of the many implications of human rights, social justice and social policy issues for social welfare practitioners;
- be familiar with the human rights, social justice and social policy issues for a range of individuals and groups including Indigenous people, people with mental health issues, people with a disability, migrants, refugees, asylum seekers, the elderly, children, women, juvenile offenders, employees, people who are unemployed, tenants, people who are homeless, prisoners and others;
- develop an understanding of the relationship between notions of social justice, human rights, the principles underlying a socially-just society, social policy and the law.
