This subject is restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy, Bachelor of Physiotherapy IHCAP Program and the Bachelor of Physiotherapy Honours Program.

Students will develop skills to enhance their interactions with patients and will gain foundation knowledge and skills in the application of selected physiotherapy assessment and treatment techniques. These include joint examination, electro physical applications, gait analysis and hydrotherapy. Issues of safety and the evidence base for the interventions will be emphasised. Students will have the opportunity to undertake site visits to develop professional knowledge. Successful completion of this subject will provide students with foundation skills required for future clinical practice experiences.

Learning Outcomes

• demonstrate safety and competence in the application of selected physiotherapy modalities, treatment and assessment techniques;
• demonstrate the ability to evaluate the evidence regarding physiotherapy assessment and treatment techniques;
• apply theoretical knowledge from scientific disciplines (anatomy, physiology and biomechanics) when undertaking joint examinations and applying electrophysical agents.

Assessment:	end of semester exam (55%); other exams (30%); assignments (15%).
Special Assessment Requirements:	To pass this subject students are required to (1) achieve a pass grade in the practical examination and in the written examination paper (2) demonstrate competence in the application of electro-physical agents and (3) attend JCU arranged clinical placement, submit a completed Review of Placement (online feedback/survey), a logbook and portfolio. Requirements (2) and (3) have no mark allocation in the subject.
