PP3101 - Advanced and Integrated Physiology

This subject will focus on advanced topics in respiratory, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal physiology, integrating these three topics at the cellular, organ and whole body levels. This subject expands on the principles and concepts discussed in the Medical Physiology subjects with particular emphasis on the integrated function of these systems in exercise as well as in special situations (diving, high altitude, space).

Learning Outcomes

• students will be able to analyse the normal physiological processes of selected organ systems at an advanced level using the current literature in this area;
• students will be able to describe the manner in which these organ systems integrate function in order to serve the organism's needs;
• students will observe the consequences of altering key physiological variables on organ system function;
• students will be able to discuss the interplay between body systems as physiological conditions change.
