This subject provides the student with the opportunity to enhance and extend their existing knowledge in the nursing management of clients who have mental health issues in generalist health settings. This subject also provides an opportunity to develop new knowledge and assessment and management skills in this important aspect of clinical health care. The student's learning will be extended and applied to addressing nursing issues in the management of mental health related symptoms and behaviours in their particular clinical setting.

Learning Outcomes

• use critical thinking, reflective and analytical skills and apply these to the care of clients with mental health issues;
• apply specific knowledge of a variety of mental health issues to the care of clients in generalist health settings;
• demonstrate the ability to conduct mental health assessments of clients with mental health issues in generalist health settings;
• develop a variety of effective nursing management strategies for clients with a range of mental health issues in generalist health settings.
