In this subject the students explore the theoretical concepts of person, health, environment and caring as they relate to nursing. A primary focus of this subject is developing an awareness of the health status of the individual, the family and the community. In nursing laboratories, opportunities are provided to develop and practise foundation clinical skills to use in both assessment and intervention when caring for the low dependency patient.
Learning Outcomes
- apply assessment tools for basic data collection when monitoring individual health status against parameters of "normal";
- demonstrate an understanding of the principal concepts of health, environment and caring as they relate to nursing practice;
- describe the influence of variables such as culture, lifestyle, values and beliefs on the health of the individual, the family and the community;
- develop an awareness of the health needs of diverse groups within Australian society;
- develop the foundation clinical skills needed for the assessment and care of individuals, families and community and practice within the professional guidelines to maintain a safe environment for the person, self, colleagues and community.
