The important aesthetic and production issues underpinning the use of typography in still and dynamic media are explored in this subject. An array of advanced software applications are employed to visualise information using text. Students explore spatial relationships with text, colour and shape in a variety of output formats. The subject culminates in a team based project which utilises the theoretical constructs of typographic design studied during the semester.
Learning Outcomes
- ability to complete a range of set tasks demonstrating an understanding and relevant application of still and moving typography within a project setting;
- established aesthetic qualities in the creative product via use of typography;
- a broad understanding of the history and key characteristics of font development;
- ability to integrate text (via typographic principles) into a variety of creative media to achieve a range of professional goals;
- ability to blend text into art and design pieces so that it forms a seamless aesthetic utility.
