Students will explore different types of educational assessment tools. Discuss factors that influences the reliability and validity of assessment tools.

Learning Outcomes

• Explain the nature and purpose of an educational assessment;
• Explain the different types of educational assessments (with examples): summative, formative, criterion referenced, norm-referenced and competency-based;
• Compare and contrast a variety of approaches to assessment;
• Discuss the issues to be considered in assessing the learners at the appropriate levels;
• Discuss the influencing factors on reliability and validity of educational assessment.

• The ability to appraise information critically;
• The ability to use independent judgment to synthesise information to make intellectual and/or creative advances;
