In this subject the student is introduced to the contemporary concepts of lifespan development. The physical, cognitive, and psychosocial (psychological, emotional and socio-cultural) aspects of lifespan development are addressed. These will be applied to all periods of the lifespan to promote the lifelong well-being of individuals. The context of experiences and the impact of developmental disability across the lifespan are discussed.
Learning Outcomes
- describe the sequence of human development and the processes underlying it;
- explore the concepts and theoretical perspectives on human lifespan development;
- apply the concepts of lifespan development to the caring for individuals of various age groups;
- outline the interdependency of physical, cognitive, psychosocial (psychological, emotional, social and cultural) aspects of development;
- discuss the impact of developmental disability across the lifespan and develop an understanding of wellness across the lifespan.
