Available to Human Movement students in primary and secondary programs.
This subject is designed to advance the pedagogy of specialist HPE majors. Using a Games Concept Approach (GCA) as the basis to critique a range of pedagogical approaches in HPE, students will expand and refine their knowledge and skills in their pedagogical repertoire. Students will engage in a variety of instructional situations including lecturer-led learning experiences, peer-teaching and observation of authentic examples. Additionally students will reflect upon these experiences as a means to enhance their teaching and coaching skills.
Learning Outcomes
- gain an appreciation and working understanding of GCA in teaching and sport coaching;
- further develop competencies for effective teaching and planning for physical education;
- develop an appreciation of the merits of the GCA approach for teaching and coaching at all levels from ECE to Senior sport;
- design and conduct enjoyable, active and challenging learning experiences in physical education and sport coaching contexts;
- further develop communication and organizational skills for practical lessons and coaching sessions;
- gain an appreciation of the on-going need for continuous professional development and up- skilling and the embrace of new technologies in the professional fields of physical education teaching and sport coaching.
