Available to students enrolled in Bachelor of Education (Middle Schooling and Secondary). NOTE: Lectures and tutorials for the Cairns offering of this subject are delivered via videoconference from Townsville.

Learning and teaching science in the secondary school will be the focus of this subject. During the program, students should become familiar with the syllabus requirements in Junior Science (Science Years 1-10 syllabus). The issues addressed throughout the subject will be grounded in practice and informed by current research and philosophical positions. The subject will include investigation of the rationale for the Science curriculum, the nature and design of the syllabus including examples of Queensland and international syllabi. The subject will develop discipline specific lesson and unit planning, assessment and teaching strategies appropriate to Year 10. Some of these topics will include: conceptual learning, learning environments, scientific literacy, teaching strategies, "constructivism" as a referent for practice, curriculum materials and professional practice.
