This subject addresses principles and practices and content related to teaching and learning in Studies of Society and Environment (SOSE) and its informing disciplines of History and Geography in middle school settings with reference to relevant national and state curriculum frameworks. The subject develops pre-service teachers' competence in planning, implementing and assessing historical and geographical inquiries which promote active and informed citizenship. The subject builds a repertoire of strategies that promote higher-order thinking capacities in order for children and adolescents to critically engage with evidence and arrive at well-reasoned conclusions and sustainable courses of action. The subject will consolidate pre-service teachers' own knowledge and understanding of biophysical, social, economic and political social systems.
