This subject focuses on IT in business, its uses, importance, and management. Areas covered include management of information services and infrastructures in organisations and the role of IT professionals in developing and implementing IT. The organisational framework for IT and IT professional practices is set within its broader social context. Techniques and tools for describing, analysing and managing IT services and infrastructures used in organisations will be introduced. The opportunities, problems and risks associated with IT uses in business will be examined.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand basic concepts of organisations, including organisational structures, the roles of individuals and groups in organisations, the role of communication in organisations;
- Understand linkages between IT and business, including the role and importance in organisations and society, and the role of IT in achieving organisational objectives;
- Consider ethics, rights and responsibilities associated with IT professionals in organisations;
- Apply techniques and tools for describing, analysing, and managing IT services and infrastructures in organisations;
- Recognise and evaluate the opportunities, risks and liabilities arising from the uses of IT in organisations.
