This subject is specifically designed for students who need fundamental drawing skills. Students studying biological, earth or medical sciences, anthropology, archaeology, tourism, communications, or any student who needs to pictorially record a subject, will find this subject useful.

Learning Outcomes

• to demonstrate understanding of spatial intervals and the principles of linear and aerial perspective;
• to demonstrate understanding of the principles underlying shadows and reflections;
• to explore and to be competent in using a range of drawing mediums;
• to understand and to be competent in applying the conventions of composition;
• to acquire skills in sight-size measuring of proportions, and in tonal rendering.

Graduate Qualities

• The ability to think critically, to analyse and evaluate claims, evidence and arguments;
• The ability to define and to solve problems in at least one discipline area;
• The ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences;

Assessment:	two prescribed folios of drawings (40% each) (80%); research journal (20%).
Special Assessment Requirements:	In order to establish the authenticity of work submitted for assessment, attendance at practical classes is compulsory. Rolls are kept and work submitted by students with an attendance of less than 80% will not be eligible for assessment unless prior approval has been obtained in writing from the lecturer.
