Recognised bachelor degree, or bachelor with honours degree in an allied health discipline or a recognised bachelor or bachelor with honours of nursing degree.
This subject aims to build upon knowledge gained in the first of the core subjects, RH5101 Rehabilitation in the Tropics, in that it challenges the student to examine difficult and complex issues of rehabilitation. These issues may arise from clinical, geographic, ethical, cultural or socioeconomic reasons, but all impact on the quality of rehabilitation services a health practitioner can provide a client. Students will identify and consider in depth these issues around a range of scenarios to develop problem solving skills to help them in their practice. The subject supports the JCU objectives of helping communities (local or regional) and working to improve healthcare and capacity within the tropics.
Learning Outcomes
- identify issues within the health care models that make them problematic for some communities and identify how to reduce or resolve problems;
- comprehend the complex interactions of culture, geography and socio-economy on health and health care and how best manage factors to achieve best practice;
- evaluate priorities within a rehabilitation services in both tropical (global) and local (Australian) contexts to maximise outcomes from rehabilitation services;
- describe comprehensively the process of evaluation and outcome of rehabilitation, to ensure quality service and best practice in tropical (global) and local (Australian) contexts with respect to rehabilitation.

Prerequisites: | A recognised bachelor or bachelor with honours degree in an applied health science course within the last 10 years eg nursing, allied health disciplines. Subjects to be undertaken in sequential order. |
