This subject is designed to offer foundation knowledge and skills in the specialty area of psychiatric/mental health nursing. The aim is to introduce the student to major aspects of psychiatric/mental health nursing. The focus is on student development of knowledge which is applied to therapeutic nursing skills when working with mental health consumers and carers. Students will learn assessment and interviewing skills for mental health, and be introduced to a range of major mental health problems and their related treatment and management strategies.
