This subject is available to level 1 students enrolled in the Bachelor of Health Science (Physician Assistant). The subject will provide the foundations in human science, clinical skills, professional practice, cross cultural practice of medicine. The topics will be presented in an integrated fashion across the semester of study. Students will undertake a clinical placement in a primary care setting.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate sound knowledge of human science particularly as relevant to human health in the areas of anatomy and physiology, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology;
- practically apply knowledge and basic clinical skills in the areas of history taking and physical examination to demonstrate beginning level skills in clinical decision making;
- demonstrate sound communication skills relevant to interaction with patients, their families and their health professional advisers in a variety of cultural and social settings;
- demonstrate an understanding of the physician assistant role, including working in a physician assistant doctor partnership in a delegated role, and the personal and professional dimensions of this role within the Australian health system including cross cultural health care environments.
