This subject focuses on educational leadership and management at all levels within schools and school systems. Today, educational institutions reform, renew and transform through constant reconceptualisations of theory and practice. Principals, teachers and system administrators are expected to absorb, reflect upon, implement, review and evaluate any changes which may occur on a daily basis. Issues concerning school improvement and effectiveness, leadership, change, conflict, decision making, organisational growth, staff development, human resource management, community collaborations, learning communities and devolution will be explored and linked to successful, innovative practices.
Learning Outcomes
- to acquire knowledge of concepts, theories and models which underpin current successful educational leadership and management practices in schools and school systems;
- to critically analyse issues and literature concerning school improvement, effectiveness, review and evaluation;
- to develop and apply strategies and programs for achieving improved classroom, whole school and/or system wide outcomes through innovative leadership and management practices.
