Available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Education or Bachelor of Education with Honours or joint degrees with BEd and BEd(hons) and who have completed ED2491 and 6 credit points in each Secondary Area of Teaching for Secondary students enrolled in ED2488. EXTERNAL OFFERING available only to students enrolled in the ECE external major only.
This subject is part of the developmental curriculum for professional experience within the BEd program. In schools and professional settings relevant to their specialist sector (Early Childhood, Primary, or Secondary), students will compile a resource folder of materials based on purposeful observations, data gathering, planning, teaching, and managing learning environments within an ethic of care, and where appropriate in multi-age contexts. Students will collaborate, co-plan and co-teach with school-based teacher educators, starting with small groups and leading to whole class teaching episodes. By the end of professional experience, students will have taught not less than the equivalent of twelve (12) 30 minute lessons. Students are strongly encouraged to undertake this professional experience block in a rural or remote area.
Learning Outcomes
- with the support of the supervising teacher, plan, teach, manage and evaluate to achieve outcomes for all learners, within an ethic of care, and within the context of the school/centre framework;
- contribute to productive relationships with a range of members of the educational community of the practicum;
- within a school/centre collate a folder of information relating to varied approaches to theories and practices of establishing and maintaining effective engaging and supporting learning and teaching environments.
