This subject uses a project to illustrate implementation of web services over the internet in various ways, such as client-server and cloud computing, understanding of the internet application layer, especially middleware designed for use with HTTP, and connection and security issues related to web mediated database services.

Learning Outcomes

• be familiar with architectural design features, mechanisms and practices that reduce security vulnerabilities;
• understand how web servers interact with back-end systems;
• understand the nature and workings of some basic network security vulnerabilities;
• understand the operation of frequently encountered Internet application layer protocols;
• understand the purpose and operation of common network infrastructure services;
• be able to design and implement Internet client and server applications.
