The subject will provide an introduction to the principles and concepts of database systems and their importance in today's society. The relational model and various competing models for database, and a database query language are introduced. Techniques and tools to model, design, and implement a database system will also be presented.
Learning Outcomes
- implement a database design using a relational database management system;
- describe the relational database model, its features and their rationale;
- model a database using the entity-relationship model and understand the database development process;
- use the techniques of normalisation and describe their basis;
- formulate database queries in SQL.
