Available to students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Research Methods, Master of Applied Science, Graduate Diploma of Science or Graduate Certificate of Science.
This subject considers the ways that animals interact with physical aspects of their environment, matching form with function as well as the effects of environmental change at a range of spatial and temporal scales. It deal with morphological, physiological and behavioural adaptations used to accommodate environmental challenges. It also emphasises an experimental field approach to measuring animal interactions with environment. Students will be required to attend lectures, practicals and field work in BZ2008. Students will also be expected to show proficiency in biometry as a prerequisite.

Learning Outcomes

- understanding of the mechanisms by which animals accommodate physical limitations of their environment;
- understanding of the effects of environmental change on animal function;
- development of experimental skills in field biology;

| Assumed Knowledge: | Students enrolling in this subject should have an undergraduate degree in biology or have acquired equivalent knowledge through other study. They should have a good background in zoology and a sound understanding of quantitative methods in biology (BS5001 or BZ5001 or equivalent). |
