The subject will provide students with an advanced introduction to the hospitality services industry and a contemporary overview of essential management topics. Building on fundamental theories of management and leadership, unique contexts and culture of the hospitality industry will be explored. This approach requires a new focus and understanding of traditional management and leadership perspectives. This is the only way to deal effectively with perennial industry-specific issues including seasonality, labour turnover and productivity.

Learning Outcomes

• demonstrate an understanding of the role of leadership and management in the hospitality services context;
• demonstrate an understanding of basic management structures and types of hospitality services;
• demonstrate an understanding of organizational aspects and operational divisions within hospitality services;
• apply concepts from marketing, consumer behaviour, financial control and human resource management to hospitality services;
• acquire teamwork & communication skills associated with the preparation and presentation of hospitality services information.
