This subject will introduce students to the underlying principles of conducting needs assessments and planning health promotion programs. This will include an introduction to theoretical models that allow problems identified during a needs assessment to be examined in more detail to ensure the development of appropriate responses to health issues. Content will cover all key planning steps including the development of goals and objectives, and consideration of evaluation, budgeting and sustainability.
Learning Outcomes
- Have a broad understanding of the steps and processes involved in needs assessments and;
- Apply/adapt the health promotion models to plan a health promotion program;
- Define goals and objectives for a health promotion program;
- Explain how goals are derived from the analysis of the health problem;
- Explain how goals and objectives are tied to evaluation; Demonstrate the ability to plan and design a needs assessment process; Demonstrate the ability to plan and design a health promotion program to address an identified health issue for an identified target group.
