This subject examines techniques for measuring and describing aspects of human motion and explores applications of biomechanical principles and methodologies in ergonomics, orthopaedics, sport, exercise and rehabilitation. Body segment determination; static and dynamic approaches to linear kinematics; gait analysis; bending, shear and torsion; biomechanical adaptations of tissue (load, disuse, overuse, nutrition, ageing); intrinsic and extrinsic contributions to injury; tissue response to injury.
Learning Outcomes
- to apply biomechanical knowledge and skills in sport, exercise and health settings;
- to further develop understanding of the mechanics of human motion;
- to measure and describe biomechanical characteristics of sport and exercise activities.
