This subject introduces students to the profession and practice of speech pathology in Australia. Students will be introduced to the core communication and swallowing disabilities commonly assessed and managed in speech pathology practice.

Learning Outcomes

• students will be able to describe the professional competencies and ethical standards for speech pathology;
• students will understand the nature and range of communication and swallowing abilities using the ICF framework;
• students will understand how work and community contexts interface with clients of differing age, culture and disorders;
• students will integrate foundation knowledge of anatomy, physiology, linguistics and phonetics with communication and swallowing disorders.

Special Assessment Requirements:	Students will require a valid Blue Card by Week 8 in order to complete all assessment tasks.
