Leadership in Contemporary Organisations is an advanced introduction to the fundamental issues, emerging challenges and implications of leadership in organisations. The underpinning construct of this subject is 'organisational behaviour' which itself is rooted in the disciplines of psychology, sociology and anthropology. This subject integrates these areas to study the development of leadership in an historical context and in contemporary organisational forms and the impact this has upon individuals, teams and managers and organisational design. The term organisational behaviour is a shorthand way of referring to the multiplicity of interrelated influences on, and patterns of, behaviour of people within organisations. Here, a broad framework is adopted whereby key elements are discussed, debated and questioned. The framework includes enquiry of management and organisational behaviour, the individual, groups and leadership, the context of the organisation, organisational processes and improvement of organisational performance. A central aim is to provide a framework for the analysis, understanding and leadership of organisations. The subject will achieve this through discussion and analysis of numerous theoretical and empirical examples.
