Students study the language of news and how to construct a news story. They learn the importance of introductions, how best to use quotes and the difference between the active and passive voices. Students learn to write across media, including when and how to employ the 'inverted pyramid' format. They learn how to approach interviewees and how to conduct a journalistic interview. Students are expected to generate story ideas and to develop their own news style.
