Available to students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate of Primary Health Care Research.
This subject enables students to improve their knowledge and skills in research planning, data analysis, and presentation of findings relative to Primary Health Care. Students are required to conduct an in-depth study of an area of Primary Health Care that is relevant to their professional activities and experience. Students can choose one of the following three options: 1. An extensive and critical analysis of the literature in an area of particular interest and importance in Primary Health Care that culminates in recommendations for PHC policy, research, education or practice. 2. Developing a protocol and analysing existing data (i.e public accessible health-related data that has been collected by and is accessible from a health-related organisation). 3. Developing a design for a research or evaluation study in an area of primary health care. The protocol includes a brief literature review, study design and methods, and completed relevant ethics applications.
Learning Outcomes
- Conduct a systematic review of the relevant literature relevant to the selected topic;
- Design a qualitative, quantitative, or evaluation research project;
- Write a dissertation in the form of a paper intended for submission for publication;
- Complete the ethics application process for JCU and other organisations (if applicable); and;
- Present research results to peers.
