Available only to students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma of Education [33506P O 33506], must be completed with or prior to ED5218.
The subject will explore fundamentals of and current debates in curriculum design and specifically develop understandings of the central concepts of the discipline areas of English, Maths and Science and Technology. The subject will include investigation of the rationale for each subject area, the nature and design of the curriculum frameworks in each area including examples from Queensland and international jurisdictions. The subject will develop key learning area specific lesson and unit planning, assessment and teaching strategies appropriate for Years 1 -7. Preservice teachers will be involved in practical activities that will enable them to teach and integrate concepts with other Key Learning Areas.
Learning Outcomes
- create and evaluate modes of inquiry and structures appropriate to their specific KLAs;
- construct and articulate a personal philosophy informed by the nature of knowledge and characteristics of developmentally appropriate and socially just curriculum in English, Mathematics, Science and Technology areas;
- evaluate various teaching methods, materials and ICTs as they relate to primary school age student learning;
- identify and evaluate the curriculum framework, content, processes and skills including different assessment modes in each;
- Incorporate a range of perspectives as part of teaching and learning programs within the KLA areas including Indigenous and global perspectives.
