In this subject pre-service teachers will critically examine and explore teaching and learning. They will develop knowledge base and practices for collecting, analysing and interpreting information about teaching and learning, including student feedback and work samples. These cycles of systematic inquiry will have as their dual focus the continuing professional development of the pre-service teacher and improved learning outcomes for all students. Pre-service teachers will develop a professional portfolio in which they address the Professional Standards of the Queensland College of Teachers with a particular focus on numeracy, literacy and technology. Pre-service teachers are required to undertake professional experience in educational settings. In this subject Cairns students are also required to complete 14 days of wider professional experience and 3 day program induction.

Learning Outcomes

• collaborate with school-based teachers and peers to develop and evaluate professional practices;
• assess their own personal language literacy and numeracy and develop explicit evidenced-based teaching strategies for same;
• examine and critically analyse policies and evidence-informed principles and strategies of behaviour management;
• develop lesson and program planning skills relevant to current curriculum frameworks;
• develop teaching strategies that promote intellectually challenging learning experiences.
