This subject introduces students to contemporary approaches in environmental education for sustainability (EEfS) with emphasis on the Australian tropics. Students will review curriculum, pedagogy and implementation issues and be encouraged to link theoretical understandings with innovative ideas for practice in school and community settings. Students are asked to contribute to online discussions on a range of topics and complete a set of reflective, hands-on, learning investigations including two field visits to local sites. A negotiated research and/or curriculum project allows students to follow up personal and/or professional interests to further develop their knowledge, skills and understandings of EEfS.
Learning Outcomes
- become familiar with contemporary ideas and approaches to environmental education for sustainability (EEfS) in Australia;
- build a repertoire of teaching and learning strategies for effective sustainable education practice across a range of settings;
- develop knowledge, skills and understanding of curriculum development and pedagogy in line with relevant national and state policies and frameworks;
- reflect on and evaluate EEfS in relevant professional settings.
