Available ONLY to students enrolled in the Secondary major.
This subject prepares preservice teachers for a range of professional roles within the classroom, school and wider community. Preservice teachers will investigate a range of curriculum theories and develop models of integrated curriculum. The subject will draw extensively upon school-based activities to explore the relationship between theory, policy and practice. Preservice teachers will critically examine school assessment and reporting practices and relate these to the broader role of schools in communities, including assumptions. This subject also supports the preparation of a professional portfolio. Specifically for Secondary preservice teachers, this subject explores the policies surrounding mass secondary education and an examination of strategies to support student engagement.
Learning Outcomes
- develop and critique models of integrated curriculum to meet identified learning goals;
- utilize a range of evidence based teaching strategies to support student engagement and ensure the development of language literacy and numeracy;
- develop and critique a range of ways of assessing, interpreting and reporting on student learning;
- analyse research, polices and school practices related to the provision of supportive learning environments and student well-being;
- critically anaylse the role of the teacher and develop strategies for school renewal.
