Available as a core subject for third year Early Childhood Education students.

This subject focuses on the philosophical, historical, political, social and economic factors that have impacted on the evolution, current situation and future directions of early childhood care and education in Australia. It also examines pedagogy for 0-5 year olds and addresses topics of professional significance to the early childhood educator.

Assumed knowledge in this subject includes the following topics studied in ED2590:03 Early Childhood Education and Care 1. Understanding and practical application of Queensland's <i>Early Years Curriculum Guidelines</i> Early Learning Areas and key components of effective early years curricula. Further, it is assumed that students possess skills in monitoring and assessing learning and development of young children as part of the curriculum decision-making process
Prerequisites:6 credit points of level 2 ED subjects
