Core subject for BEd (ECE) students.
This subject explores early childhood curriculum, pedagogy and development. It relates child development to Queensland's <i> Early Years Curriculum Guidelines</i> Early Learning Areas - Social and Personal Learning; Health and Physical Learning; Language Learning and Communication; Early Mathematical Understandings; and Active Learning Processes, and key components of effective early years curricula. Along with (10) half-days of professional experience, this subject examines play and other early childhood learning contexts to forge a link between theory and practice in early childhood settings.
Learning Outcomes
- develop skills in monitoring and assessing learning and development of young children as part of the curriculum decision-making process;
- explore the relationships between early childhood development and pedagogy; and between theory and practice;
- critically examine early childhood curriculum documents and a range of pedagogies and activities for young children.

Assumed Knowledge: | Assumed knowledge in this subject includes an understanding of the development of the young child in terms of physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development as studied in ED1481:03 Foundations of Educational Psychology. |
