In this subject students will develop skills to competently restore and replace decayed tooth structure with direct application of restorative materials, including amalgam and composite resins. In addition, students will develop basic skills in indirect restorative techniques. The replacement of lost teeth with removable appliances remains an important part of dental practice, and an introduction to the materials and techniques involved will be part of this subject. Students will also develop an understanding of the principles of dental radiography, with a specific focus on intra-oral radiography.
Learning Outcomes
- Perform a range of dental restorative procedures in the simulated dental environment;
- Demonstrate competency in occlusal fissure sealing, preparing cavities and restoring permanent teeth in the simulated environment;
- Understand the materials and processes associated with basic removable prosthodontic;
- Understand the cariology process and the properties of dental materials used;
- Understand the basic concepts in dental radiography.
