The subject will provide an introduction to the principles and concepts of database systems and their importance in today's society. The relational model and various competing models for database, and a database query language are introduced. Techniques and tools to model, design, and implement a database system will also be presented.
Learning Outcomes
- formulate database query and manipulation language for data entry and reporting;
- understand the major objectives, features and impacts of database and data warehousing technologies;
- understand the roles of IT professionals in the database environment;
- understand and apply a range of conceptual modelling techniques and tools in different phases of the database development lifecycle;
- implement a database design using a relational database management system.
