Horror cinema has always been one of the most successful and innovative genres in cinema, and its importance has increased over recent years. This subject explores the historical development of Horror and related genres in the cinema. It offers students the means to analyse these important areas of cinema with theoretical depth and sophistication, while relating them to social and cultural dynamics.
Learning Outcomes
- provide an historical account of the development of Horror and related genres in cinema;
- provide students with the means to analyse these important areas of cinema through the use of appropriate theoretical and methodological tools;
- develop student competence in the critical appreciation of these genres in both both English-speaking and non-English-speaking cultures and interrogation of popular cultural narrativewhile relating them to social and cultural dynamics;
- develop student capacities to relate historical and cinematic developments to social and cultural dynamics;
- provide practical experience in the critical analysis of cinema and other popular cultural phenomena.
