The ecology, systematics, structure and function of terrestrial arthropods including the insects, arachnids and myriapods.Topics include evolution and systematics of terrestrial arthropods; structure and function of insect systems; biological control and integrated pest management; collecting, curating and identifying terrestrial arthropods.

Learning Outcomes

• to appreciate the diversity of terrestrial arthropods;
• to correctly identify and curate terrestrial arthropods;
• to know the variety of techniques used to collect terrestrial arthropods;
• to understand the evolutionary relationships between the major groups of terrestrial arthropods;
• to understand the theory behind biological control and integrated pest management.

Assumed Knowledge:	Students enrolling in this subject should have a good understanding of zoological processes and taxonomy (ZL1001 or BZ1004 or equivalent to first year level), and data analysis and experimental design to second year level (BS2001 or BZ2001 or equivalent)
