The subject draws together the areas of leadership and strategy by considering how managers shape the future of organisations through strategic thinking and analysis, developing and deploying strategy, and influencing the organistion through effective leadership practices to achieve a desired future. The critical links between the art of leadership, the creativity of thinking, and the science of strategy will be examined and practiced. The emphasis of the subject will be on examining leadership paradigms and strategy development within relevant contexts, identifying barriers and investigating relevant issues within those contexts.
Learning Outcomes
- Identify and critically appraise paradigms, context, barriers and major issues of leadership and strategy within an increasingly dynamic and dispersed world;
- Identify and practice at the individual level, essential critical creative strategic thinking tools of holistic understanding of the organisation and its environment; creativity; and organisational direction within a context-sensitive environment;
- Apply at the organisational level, critical creative strategic thinking tools of fostering organisational dialogue and engaging the ingenuity and creativity of individual employees within a context-sensitive environment;
- Use industry analysis tools;
- Consider the process of strategy development and implementation to sustain strategic advantage.
