The subject aims: to provide an academic award in infection control that is responsive to learning needs, national accreditation requirements and requirements of employers; to educate health professionals about infection control in a range of health care settings particularly where resources are limited. Focus will be on infection control in rural and remote settings in Australia and in developing countries.
Learning Outcomes
- demonstrate evidence of a comprehensive understanding of infection control principles, strategies and policies in a range of health care settings in the developed and developing worlds;
- describe the chain of infection, non-specific and specific host immune responses;
- discuss strategies for the education of health personnel in infection control and continuing professional development of infection control personnel;
- discuss strategies to enhance a successful team approach to infection control;
- discuss the importance of building design and infrastructure in infection control;
- discuss the significance of nosocomial diseases and their causative pathogens.
