The subject involves the submission of a research thesis of no more than 15,000 words on a topic negotiated by the student and a supervisor appointed by the relevant school in the faculty. The thesis will be examined by two examiners, at least one of whom will be external, appointed by the relevant school. The subject will be available to students enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma of Social Science or Masters of Social Science by Coursework.

- to develop and demonstrate independent research and writing skills in an appropriate Social Science field.
