This subject aims to extend the knowledge gained in PY2104. The focus in the subject will be upon health psychology at a public health level rather than at the level of the individual. Taking a health promotion perspective, topics covered will include factors contributing to chronic disease and the social determinants of health. Particular attention will be paid to the differential impact such factors have upon different population groups, for example children and indigenous Australians. Students will also be instructed in the use and meaning of basic epidemiological terms.

- the ability to read complex written and graphical health information from a variety of sources;
- the ability to generate, calculate, interpret and communicate numerical information in ways appropriate to health psychology;
- the ability to find and access health information using traditional library search techniques and information from Government and non-Government sources and the ability to evaluate and integrate that information;
- the ability to deploy critically evaluated information to practical ends;
- the ability to reflect on and evaluate learning, and to learn independently in a self-directed manner and to participate in team activities.
