By means of a written contract negotiated with the subject coordinator, students enrolling in this subject will produce two portfolios of work to near professional standard. One portfolio is to be self-commissioned in an area of photography of their choice, while the other is to consist of commissioned work.
Learning Outcomes
- acquire a portfolio of work that will assist in gaining employment in the photographic industry;
- apply knowledge of photographic techniques and the students own philosophic and artistic values to achieve near professional results in photographic work commissioned by a client;
- explore experimental alternatives wherever possible in the quest for originality and creative excellence;
- gain a greater understanding of one area of professional photography while evaluating how best to meet a clients needs;
- identify different creative processes, strategies and outcomes leading to the production of a portfolio of work representing the students personal artistic direction.

Assessment: | tutorial attendance and participation (10%); folio of self commissioned photographs as per individual approved contract (50%) and a folio of commissioned photographs as per individual approved contract (20%) (70%); journal detailing folio conception and progress (20%) (20%). |
Special Assessment Requirements: | In order to establish the authenticity of work submitted for assessment, attendance at practical classes is compulsory. Rolls are kept and work submitted by students with an attendance of less than 80% will not be eligible for assessment unless prior approval has been obtained in writing from the lecturer. |
